Lawrie Crawford

Original Abstract Paintings

About The Artist Lawrie Crawford graduated with an MFA in interdisciplinary arts from Goddard College in Washington in 2014. She is a member of the Southern Lakes Artist Collective, the Yukon Art Society and Yukon Artists at Work. Lawrie’s inspired art career, undertaken at 55 following a life of dancing, writing and theatre, is a remarkable accomplishment not just because of her audacity but also for her unique style, strong up-to-date technique, and prolific turnaround. Her studio is on the traditional territory of the Yukon’s Tagish and Tlingit people where she paints, writes and dances alongside a lake which forms the headwaters of the Yukon River.

Artist Statement My life-making-art practice forms a rolling and diving path that swoops and stills between the Yukon and the island of Maui. I capture the essence of place, its rhythm and vibration. Motion and stillness reveal patterns and lines that repeat and hum. Some can sense an echo.
