About The Artist
Since 1998, Mark Zimmermann has exhibited his paintings in fifteen solo shows and numerous group exhibitions nationally and internationally; including shows in the Riverside Art Museum, Watchung Arts Center and Idyllwild Arts Academy. In 2000, he became the first American artist to be featured by a commercial gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria. Later, in 2009, he was commissioned to create of series of paintings for the VIP Lounge at the Palazzo Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas.

Artist Statement
“To my way of thinking, painting, at its base level, is a physical act. My hope is that my work reflects that reality. As an artist, I’m inspired by the life I’ve lived and the life that goes on around me— literature, travel, architecture and the natural world all play a part. I feel my paintings exist as totems to both the urban and pastoral; the contemporary and the historical. I strive to create paintings that have been “lived in”—labored over and thought out through a hard won practice. My ideal is a painting that is vigorous, meditative and rugged..”
Zimmermann’s paintings are based on stoic, meditative fields, and an architectonic structure of horizontal and vertical elements. In discussing this work, the editor and writer, Larry Qualls noted, “…a majestic landscape narrative… they illuminate the nature of painting itself. In a sense what these paintings do is bring a synthesis of the conceptual and the realistic; it is as if there is the conflux of two grand traditions: the purely abstract and the purely objective.”
